Running a G1 Gaming GTX 970 at 8x instead of 16x?

EternalSeeker

So I only have 1 gpu at the moment and for clearence reasons and a peace of mind i use the 2nd pci slot but that runs at 8x, there shouldnt be any performance loss right?

None.  SLi uses x8 x8 anyway.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.

PCIe 3.0 @ X8 is perfectly fine.

PCIe 2.0 @ x8 though is a slight hit to performance with stronger cards like the 970.

Thank you guys. For gen 3 8 and 16 have miniscule difference, the g1 card is huge, if this was a strix card i may have used the top.

I run mostly hpc simulations with some gaming/entertaintment/editing, I have a 5960x and a rampage 5 board in a h440 so thermals are an issue.
