Linux Folding Rig GPU Slot Stuck on "Ready"

I am getting roughly 1.2k PPD off of the CPU, and I probably will not fold on the CPU. Every once in a while it says downloading or something, and then goes back to ready. Any ideas?

GPU is an HD6950.

Might be relevant http://www.overclockers.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-730543.html

The only time I've ever had a GPU not fold was because it was so weak it was pointless to even try.

I will try this. It now says "Failed", but I will try this anyway

If you could post the log, it would help us a lot ;) Also, folding does stress the card in a slightly different way to even synthetic benchmarks and tends to be quite picky about the stability of the card, so that's something to consider

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

*If I say something that seems offensive, please don't take it seriously, it was most likely meant as a joke/sarcastically*

Well, now I cannot even get lubuntu to boot, or the system to post with my wireless card. Starting to think the GPU is the most stable component

It looks to me like it MIGHT be a driver issue?

Sounds like.

Far as I know, only NVidia is supported for Folding in Linux.

I cannot believe I missed this:

Folding on AMD GPUs is problematic in linux due to poor OpenCL driver suppport from AMD.

I guess I have to run windows... somehow.

from July 2013 (foldingforum.org):

AMD folding in Linux is not supported at this time. We're waiting for AMD to produce more mature Linux drivers. The internal testing team on IRC tested the Linux AMD edition of FahCore_17, and though it ran, so many crashes and weird issues happened that Proteneer pulled the plug on that for now. So now it runs on Nvidia and AMD cards in Windows, but only Nvidia cards in Linux. Go tell AMD to improve their Linux drivers!

found this: "How-to AMD GPU fold in Linux Ubuntu" here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1505793/how-to-amd-gpu-fold-in-linux-ubuntu

I ended up just running windows. Stole the HDD from my nintento whee's WBFS drive. Thanks for researching that though!

You might be surprised to hear this but on Linux the AMD Catalyst drivers (called fglrx on Linux)  don't implement enough of the full OpenCL feature set to do FaH. Or at least, that's what I heard.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

There was a recent post in the main forum about AMD releasing open source OpenCL drivers (too little, too late, was the concensus).  They didn't mention it wasn't a full implementation.  Grrrr, AMD!

I've no idea what it's like on the open source side. All I know is the fglrx ones don't work that well either. Oh well, as a Linux user you get used to being treated as a second-class citizen when it comes to drivers.Which is a crying shame because the stuff that does work is usually plug 'n' play.
