GPU blower style or dual/triple fan (open) style?

I'm running two XFX Double D Radeon HD6870s in my Silverstone RV02 case.

Silverstone recommends that closed-shroud, blower style GPUs be used in this case layout, and I can see why.

However, given the airflow design of the case, the open GPU shrouds have never really been that much of an issue, since the case exhausts the heat from the GPUs pretty efficiently.

Reference cards with blower style fans run hotter and louder, don't they?

How much cooler would it be to follow Silverstone's recommendation and use blower style cards in these cases?

Does anyone have this case? What type of GPU coolers do y'all have?

If you've tried both types of GPU coolers in this type of case, then were there any real differences in terms of heat?

P.S.

These two cards usually stay within the 65-70ºC range during most games and sometimes get up to 75ºC during really intensive parts of games.

I don't think these temps are that bad for GPUs, but afraid of the heat bleeding over to the CPU cooler and affecting the performance of my NH-D14.

I would only recommend the new nvidia blowers

There are some aftermarket ones ( HIS ).

What cards do you want and how much are you trying to spend on a gpu?

I have an R4 case

3570K with an kuhler 620 v4 cooler

His 7870 IceQ with a blower design

This mean that almost all heat produced in the case (PSU, CPU and GPU) are expelled directly out of the case

The temp in the case never rise more then 1 to 2 C over ambient, even when stressing the cpu and gpu max

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing

I'm not really looking to buy—just asking hypothetical questions. Given the rotated orientation of the Raven RV-02, the temperature problems of the GPU are quite unique.

Yeah, I expect that from a blower design GPU, but I wanted to know how the heat from open-shroud GPUs affect the performance of the CPU.

usually dual fans cooler are way better than a blower, talking a 10c difference and quieter.

open cooler push all the heat in the case and that might affect the cpu but if there is enough airflow, it will not cause any temp increase. (the rv02 should be fine)

i d go open design in every build except sffs or cheapo cases.

Anything I write is just a comment, take is as such, there is no guarantees associated with anything I say.

It shouldn't be an issue. The design of the case will very effectively dissipate the heat from the graphics card out of the case.

Hey Guys,

Currently have a Silent Base 800 case that from experience i cannot say that the airflow is the best. The case is quiet but the airflow baffles me....

I also have an old HD6950 dual fan GPU that whenever i play a game i can hear it running at max speed. I assume that the hot air is recycled in the case to the CPU cooler (Dark Rock Pro) and is blown out by the back fan.

So the question is...would it be better to have a blower style GPU instead a dual/triple fan design?

In my mind, the blower style would suck the ambient air from the case and blow it out directly instead of recycling it in the case before the 120mm back fan pushes it out.

What do  you think?

I would say get better fans that are more optimized for restrictive conditions; e.g., get pressure fans if it's sitting behind a big door or drive cage. That's the cheaper solution.

You're right, though, a blower fan for the GPU would be way better at dumping all the GPU heat out the rear of the case...but you should still work towards improving your overall case airflow anyway. Open-style GPU coolers have many advantages, but that's assuming you have good case airflow. Try to get better fans first.
