High cpu temp on stock cooling 4790k

nm76

Hello. I have 4790K with stock cooler. During Black Ops 3 my cpu temps are 90-100c. I think i mounted good cooler.

Is this normal for stock cooler or not? Black Ops 3 only giving that high temps.

This is normal for a STOCK intel cooler.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Basically... stock cooler is shit. Get a better one if you want to overclock.

The stock coolers are shit, but not 100c shit. Something else is happening.

Yes cpu is on turbo clock 4 ghz - 4,2 ghz. And on 4,2 ghz i have 90c+ sometimes it will spike to 100c during each places in game.
It is safe to play with that temps?

You will thermal throttle around 90c. Did you adjust the voltage to the CPU? Did you touch the thermal paste on the stock cooler before you put it in place? Is the fan on the cooler running?

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I had one on my 4790(non K, stock 3.6GHz turbo 4GHz) and it was reaching 90C under load.

90c I can see, it's the 100c that is the issue. BIG difference between the two as one is over the recommended temp for the CPU.

But yes, you bought a unlocked CPU. Get a cooler on that thing stat. Or sell it to me :P

Big difference between the 2 are clock speeds, stock 4GHz turbo 4.2GHz :P

Sorry, second part was for the OP. I know the 4790k runs hot on the stock cooler, as I covet one SOOO much. But 100c is a bit extreme.

OP, I have a nice cool spot for your 4790k to rest. Cooled by the majestic breeze from a H105, safe from any heat issues. It would be free to frolic.

Don't play any games that have the temperatures that high, wait until you have a cooler.

Yes, the stock coolers are made for prebuilt machines or non overclocked i5's max. They shouldn't even include them with high end i7's. I know none of the X99 CPUs come with one. That's why I have a h110 keeping mine at a comfy 50degrees under load ;-)

Try removing the side panel, if temperatures improve, you need better airflow in your case. It's normal for temperatures to be high on stock cooler, but maybe not that high.
