Best Fanless cpu cooler for AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black

Arcanekitten

Hi !

so i am building a new router and if got a old Phenom II X4 965 Black but its got a abominable loud stock cpu cooler which when watching movies (it was a Media pc for watching stuff since i am not rich and don't have a smart tv)  so what cooler should i use and as cheap as possible also a router isn't load intensive but to be sure i am going to stress test it just if the load would like get really high but i can live with high temps so i don't need a full custom loop :P

:P

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

OH!

I thought that was a Joke

wow...

oh no. And there is a company call quietpc that will build you fully passive systems. Albeit with off the shelf stuff (no fan coolers and cases) and cheap passive gpus

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Reeeaaallly looking forward to that Sandia cooler, if it ever really makes it. Which it should, if we are to believe how they tell us the tests are going.

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

As these CPU is a 125 watt part, all (off the shelf) passive coolers I know will fail when the CPU is under 100% load. And I know quite a lot of the passive coolers out there. Even the massive NoFan ones are maxed out at 100 watts and are not able to hande 125 watt full passive unless your room is at 10°C.

With a nearby casefan provideing some airflow you can make a semifanless build. But then you can just put the fan onto the CPU cooler and get rid of the case fan.

Also the fanless chassis like the HDPLEX H5 will struggle unless you use both sides for the CPU, leaving no cooling for a GPU.

I rally love passive cooling, but the only solution for you is to use water cooling and a (array) of fanless raditors (not normal rads without a fan, there are special once optimized for natural convection).

Mineral oil and 40 kg aluminium heat sinks are a perfect combination: 73 cores and a Titan X, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Oil

Yes, about one month age I saw one of these for sale for only 50$. It was very hard not to buy it, but my set-up is brand new (not even completely finished yet) so I have no chance at all to build one more system.

You can also use something like the Alphacool Cape Cora HF 1042, that is less agressive looking.

Alright thanks for the insight but since the cpu would not be on a 100% load all the time since its a router could there be a other solution? Or a cooler that then can cool it good enough? Also I could switch the fan on the back to instake and the front to exhaust if that would help.

Also It could be possible to get a cpu cooler with a low rpm fan a 700rpm one?

The CPU is overkill for a router, but I assume it is a "leftover" so is ok.

As the load is liw, you can downclock the CPU and save a lot of power since you can also lower the voltage when lowering the clock.

With this modification you can get away with a cr-95, or mayby even a zalman FX-70. Or you get a massive dual tiwer heatsink and a low RPM fan.
