Need help

mahaqmi

Hi guys, i need your opinion on building a  skylake pc. Right now i have a pc that uses i3-3220 as cpu but i decided to upgrade. My friend helps me build about 3 years ago so i dont really have that much experience building my own. Currently im looking forward to buy i5-6600k (cpu), msi z170a gaming pro (mobo) and kingston hyper x fury 8gb ddr4 2666MHz (memory), and all the other part such as psu, and HDD i will be using the old one and as for the gpu I'll upgrade to gtx970 from next moth salary. :P   I need you opinion is this a good build overall and after i've done setting it all do i have to configure the bios or just leave as it be? Thanks in advance and sorry for asking such a noob question! :(

Please tell us what you're wanting to do with the PC, your budget and your location. This way we can give you the best possible build.

Sig under construction.

You might want to rethink about reusing the PSU and HDD because the age, how old are they?

Plus you might want 16gb DDR4 if you are not thinking about upgrading for another couple of years

Everything else is good

Thanks for the reply! Mostly gaming, i choose to buy skylake as i think i dont have to upgrade it for 3 or more years. I live in malaysia and some of the pricing here is different than in the US though.

Thanks for the reply! My pc i about 3 years old. I do beleive the psu still have around 1 or 2 more years warranty. Isn't 16gb will be too much for gaming?

16gb will be brilliant for the next 3 years and will work perfectly, but if you are on a tight budget, go 8gb because it might pull it off.

Or go 8gb and get an SSD, it helps, trust me  :)

What are you doing with your pc? I know that 16gb will be great for almost anything!

Noted I'll add in another 8gb ram together with gtx970 next month. Mostly gaming, one of the main reason to upgrade because right now with i3-3220 and gtx 650 most of the games i play will have stutter and stuck here and there. I'm using 27inch 1440p monitor though which i guess the main reason for all the problem.

I occasionally play minecraft with flans mod using 8GB and it complains 'Insufficient Memory'

Adams, that's almost certainly because you have 32-bit Java installed. Make sure the only version of Java you have installed is 64-bit.

That would work a treat with 16gb ram!

To Clarify, your pc will have:

 i5-6600k

Msi z170a gaming pro

 2x kingston hyper x fury 8gb ddr4 2666MHz = 16gb DDR4 2666MHz

GTX 970

What models are the GTX 970, psu and the hdd?
