I think i killed my VGA

Corey D

Hello I recently cleaned out my pc with air duster while doing this I use the air on the fan area of the VGA as well as the PCIE slot. Now when I try to boot the system with the VGA installed I get no signal from the VGA. The onboard video work just fine upon boot and the device manger will not show the VGA install in the PCIE slot. I Believe the VGA is now fried I have tried all software issue I can think of fresh OS registry deletion of all driver etc.  I cannot test to see if the slot is bad I have no other MB on hand. The VGA seems to be getting power the fan runs and I’ve tried both 6 pin I have on my PSU. If anyone can give me an additional option to try I would be grateful.

I am willing to replace the VGA, my only issue is that I am going to be replacing the whole ring in 6 months’ time I cannot afford what I want to do at this moment. So I’m looking for something of relative power to the VGA I have now and on the cheaper side.

PC

MB: GA-MA69GM-S2H

|CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor Dual-Core 3.2GHz

Ram: 2 GB I will be upping to 4 see below

PSU: BFG650WGSPSU    650 watts

HDD: Seagate 1TB

VGA: XFX Radeon HD 5750

Now XFX had a Double Lifetime Warranty when I bought the card is it worth looking into will they cover this? If not I would appreciate some suggestions on a replacement card and some ram. I want to be able to play Heroes of the storm, Hearthstone D3, Kerbal Space Program TF2 Nothing too crazy for now I was thinking of:

VGA: ZOTAC GeForce GT 730 ZT-71105-10BB 2GB  $40 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500383 GIGABYTE GeForce GT 420 GV-N420-2GI (rev. 3.0) 2GB  $40 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125785   XFX HD 5000 Radeon HD 5450 HD545XCLH2 2GB $ 45 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150673 Ram : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0RN-000T-00075R  I would never usually buy such crap ram but as I said this is only going to be use 3-6 moths max, I have about a $60 limit  keep that in mind and I don’t mind playing games on lower setting for a bit until I replace the whole rig.

Have you tried reinstalling the video card drivers? (not sure if this will work but it usually works for me)

Have you let the card dry before using it? Have you installed all nessecary cables (6 pin or 8 pin?)

Did you have the can upside down when blowing the card, because when you do this the fluid sprays out. Let the card dry before turning your computer on.

For $60 you can pick up a 7770, that'll destroy any of those cards you listed.

Also did you really spray the slot? You'd see if some dust or other shits got stuck in the slot isolating pins

If the computer (i.e. Device Manager) does not detect the graphics card, then there is a HIGH possibility that the graphics card is not properly seated in the PCI-Express X16 slot.

Turn off the computer, take your HD 5750 graphics card out, and reinstall it back into the slot. Make sure the I/O (back of the card) lines up with the PCI expansion slots on the back of your computer case. Line up the card's eletrical contact pins, and put the card into the slot evenly. One end of the PCI-E X16 slot should have a locking tab -- make sure that locks into place. This shoudl be easier to do with the computer laying on its side then sitting up-right.

Even if the card is bust, or somehow fried, the computer SHOULD still see that "something weird" is in the PCI-E x16 slot.

Thank you for your replies

-rascal- i have tried resitting the card multi  times it seems to be seated properly in lock is engaged

I did plug in the 6 pin as well as try the 2nd 6 pin cord on my psu

I did not spay the bottle upside down nor did i spry it directly into the PCIE slot the 3 PCI slot below were dusty so i sprayed one quick burst over all for with a level hand.

I understand i may have damaged the VGA or the MB with the air duster Could that cause it not to show up in device manger?

Also this happen a few weeks ago VGA would have had plenty of time to dry.

If that is the case, the graphics cad may have been damaged during the cleaning process.

The air duster itself is not capable of damaging the motherboard or the PCI-E X16 slot.

Before you spend any money, see if you could test the HD 5750 in another computer (i.e. friend, family, or ask a local PC shop).

The HD 5750 is no longer in prodution. If XFX honours their lifetime warranty, and is willing to replace the card, it will be a R-200, or R-300 equivalent; something possiblly in the lines of a R7-240, or a R7-250.
