Hello, help with first build?

accelbread

Hello, I'm currently planning a PC build for one of my friends, and its the first time I've tried to build a PC, so I was hoping to get some advice on the build.

His budget is around $1300 USD, and he mostly wants to play Skyrim in HD with a lot of mods. Also it should be good enough to play most games at as high settings as possible in the budget.

He already has a 1080p LCD monitor, and has already ordered a mouse and keyboard. We also have a copy of Windows so we just need to fit the actual PC in the budget.

Here's the parts list I've got going so far:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 6M Skylake Quad-Core 3.5GHz - $250
  • CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - $35
  • motherboard: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - $170
  • RAM: 2x HyperX FURY 8GB 288-Pin DDR4 - $120 total
  • Case: Corsair Obsidian 750D Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower - $160
  • GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 970 GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support - $370
  • PSU: CORSAIR CX Series CX850M CP-9020099-NA 850W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Power Supply - $120
  • fan filter: Silverstone FF143B 140mm Ultra Fine Fan Filter with Magnet - $10
  • HDD: Seagate Barracuda ES ST3750640NS 750GB 16MB Cache 7200RPM Enterprise-Class SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive - $40
  • SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive - $55
  • cable management: ORICO CBT-1S 3.3 ft / 1M Reusable & Dividable Hook and Loop Velcro Cable Tie - $10

The case comes with three fans so I'm planning to do 1 intake and 2 outtakes. I'm pretty sure all the parts will fit but not sure. We went with 16GB ram for skyrim mods, and an SSD cause he wants faster loading times. Also will all the cables we need come with the parts?

Any advice is appreciated!

The build looks great to me, just a couple questions. The case comes with a fan filter in the front, so the silverstone fan filter won't be neccessary. Also, you could spend the extra $10 and get a 1tb hdd. The last thing to note is that since heat naturally rises, I think 1 exhaust in the back will be enough and the two fans should stay in the front to help cool the cpu and gpu. Besides that, all looks good and yes, all cables you will need are included.

You don't need a extra fan filter

You don't need that extra cable managment stuff

Don't get a CX PSU get a EVGA GS, XFX or Seasonic PSU which is better also you only need 600W

Don't get that SSD it's really slow and for $55 it's a really bad deal, get a Samsung 850 EVO or Crucial BX100 instead also you might as well get 1TB HDD

If your friend is playing with mods, textures, etc. A R9 390 would be better than 970 because of the extra Vram

                                                                                                                 Setup

CPU: i3 4160|Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE|RAM: Kingston HyperX Blue 8GB(2x4GB)|GPU: Sapphire Nitro R9 380 4GB|PSU: Seasonic M12II EVO 620W Modular|Storage: 1TB WD Blue|Case: NZXT S340 Black|PCIe devices: TP-Link WDN4800| Montior: ASUS VE247H| Others: PS3/PS4

You won't need the extra fan filer and probably won't need the cable management parts.

More vram is good for modding so you might want to go with an r9 390 for a graphics card. If you stick with the gtx 970 though you could save some money and get a 650W power supply. I'm running that card in along with like 5 fans, a water cooler, 2 hard drives, and overclocking my CPU and it runs perfectly with 600 watts.

Also for another few bucks you can upgrade the hard drive to 1tb, so I recommend doing that.

And yes, all cables will be included.

CPU: i7-4790k @ 4.4GHz | GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 Gaming | PSU: Corsair CX600M | Cooler: NZXT Kraken x41 | Motherboard: Asus z97-E | Case: Zalman Z11 Neo | RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws X @ 2400MHz | Storage: 3TB Seagate HDD, 120GB Team Dark SSD |  OS: Windows 10 Pro

Don't get the CS series PSU.

Get G2/GS PSU from EVGA. They are good.

Don't ever get that SSD, Get Samsung 850 evo for the good.

I'd select R9 390 over GTX 970.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

Here is a suggested build that will benefit your friend quite more than the one you have a mind.

Also you can add w/e fans you want

The 850 psu is there just in case your friend decides to put a second gpu in there for 2-way crossfire.
