Ethernet Cable via router is faster than direct cable to pc

i am going to uni in few days, the accommodations i am going to live in have more than 200 students in a building.

there is wifi through the building and ethernet cable connections in each room, i know wifi will be slower than cable.

i have a tp link router 'TL SF100FD', i was thinking of using it. cable from wall to router and from router to my pc. will this be faster?

i am only asking this because i need to order enternet cable before i move there and don't know how many i need to order 2 or 1.

The ethernet comes from a router already (or more specifically a switch), using a modem wont work at all unless it has range extender functionality, in which case it will be slower.
