How many fans on the intake configuration

dakilla124

I'm havin troubles on figuring out if my idea is a good or bad idea. I want my case to have 4 intake fans and 1 exhaust with the cpu cooler blowing air towards the exhaust fan or is this bad for cooling or not?

It's not that good to have too much intake as it's fighting natural convection currents as hot air rises meaning hot air can't escape the case very well which of course leads to higher temps, you should always have a close balance of intake and exhaust and especially always have the top vents as exhaust.

Warmer air rising is negligible when there's any active airflow.

Air in a case will go where you blow it, it won't rise like it does in a house, it simply doesn't work that way. Having 4 intakes and 1 exhaust will just have positive air pressure and force itself out of the case where ever it can.

Try it. But where you plan to place these intakes 3 and 4? Most cases only have 2 front slots. Having intake on top isn't that effective if you have small single tower cooler.

Bad Idea. Air cant get out as fast as it gets in. Air will circle inside and gets hotter and hotter.

This is how good Balance looks like.

Air WILL get out. It won't circulate, fresh air will be pulled in and the hot air will get pushed out through all the openings in the rear (PCI slot covers, grilles like the one above the rear fan of your 760T, etc).

As for the case pictured, 2.5 intake fans (the bottom front one is partially blocked by the HDD cage) and 4 exhaust fans is hardly good balance no matter which individual fans are 120 or 140mm. It's seriously negative pressure, which means it will pull in unfiltered air through all the openings in the back. Disable 2 of those top fans and you'll see a massive decrease in dust whilst maintaining very similar temperatures.

4 intake and 1 exhaust is hardly ideal either, especially if you plan on using an exhaust slot as intake. Top fans often aren't filtered, so there's a risk of drawing in dust that way.

Either make sure those top intakes are filtered or use 2 intake fans and one exhaust, leaving the top open for passive exhaust.

Nope. The air will get hotter. And i have dustfilters installed. And the HDD Cage dont block anything. I tested the Airflow.
