Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme vs 3.0 Extreme

According to the only benchmarks I can find the 3.0 Extreme performs a between an X60 and an H220.  How does it perform better than the 2.0 Extreme with the thicker radiator?

Specs: Core I7-2600K @ 4.5GHz @ 1.35V, 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance Black 1600MHz CL9, Cooler Master Evo 212, MSI Z77 Mpower Motherboard, Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Vapor-X @ 1000/1400, Cooler Master HAF 932 Blue Edition w/ 3 Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 120MM fans (2 up top 1 in the bottom) replaced side panel with a window, and rear fan with a Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 140MM, Cooler Master GX 650 80+ Bronze PSU, Samsung DVD-RW, Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD, Seagate 750GB SATA III 7200RPM

More thick=more surface area resulting in better cooling.

Water 2.0 Extreme is 240x120x45

Water 3.0 Extreme is 240x120x28

 

Yet the water 3.0 Extreme performs better.

Yet the water 3.0 Extreme performs better.

I just went from what you said in the OP. Probably higher fin density.

One thing I see is, it says the fans are 82CFM on the water 2.0 extreme: http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model_Specification.aspx?id=C_00001876

vs

99CFM on the water 3.0 extreme: http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model_Specification.aspx?id=C_00002065

 

Is that CFM of both fans or individual fans?  I am using Cougar Hydraulic Bearing fans atm and want to use them on the radiator.

that would be a single fan rated.

 

the controller uses PWM fans, so your cougars should be a PWM variety. these compact

pump/controllers do not vary the voltage, rather than adjust the cycle-rate of the on/off

switch. if PWM fans are not used, the fans will received direct voltage (11.5-12.1v by my

voltmeter).

I have my fans @ 100% as they are ultra silent.  They offer 1.74 mm/h2o of static pressure.

great.. i used the CF-V12H fans for about 5mo and had to remove them for two

reasons. inconsistent speeds/performance and bearing failure (which was

prolly why it was inconsistent). i felt the rating (SP) was a lot weaker than

advertised. the Bitfenix Pro fans were just as powerful at 12v (1.24mm/h2o) than

the V12H fans. anyway i went to Noctua, BGears and Corsair fan with no other

issues..

hopefully you get different results.

I have cougar hydraulic bearing ultra silent fans. 1.74mm/h20 and I bought them for a radiator

So they made most of the improvements in the block and the fans. I don't plan on using the stock fans with this cooler, would the thicker Water 2.0 Extreme outperform the 3.0 Extreme with my Cougar Hydraulic-Bearing fans because it's thicker.

3.0 is a 240x120x27mm rad the 2.0 is 240x120x42mm rad.

it is not necessary to create a new topic when you already had a similar thread started.

all that does is create confusion for members with a lot of back-n-forth with information

already stated.. best to amend older thread with new information.

It means a more consistent performance across a higher range of different fan RPMs.

 

If the 3.0 rad is designed for high RPM fans then it could easily beat the 2.0 rad.
