College PC downsize

It's a full tower build in a haf 912 advanced which I mostly use for gaming (yes I know it's overkill but I didn't know that at the time). I'm going to college soon, and I was thinking that I should downsize to a smaller form factor in order to make it more convenient to transport around. I initially wanted to go with a fractal node 304 and an asus z97I - plus so that I could keep the psu and cpu cooler, but someone I talked to said there would be issues with the hard drive placement and the cpu cooler. he suggested that I co with a coolermaster n200 and an matx motherboard.

 

Do you guys think it's worth it to downsize a pc for convenience in college and if so, which form factor and components should I go with?
