You can still upgrade to Windows 10, but it will still be a pirated version.

So you'll still lose anything that is only available to legit versions, which I would guess will be mainly the App store.

It's not a race to the bottom.

I had a pirate copy as I felt it was too much trouble going back to 8 all over to 8.1 to do a clean install everytime I needed to reinstall. I was able to upgrade to 10 and have activation on a pirate version. After the clean install, I lost activation. I had to, today, reinstall legit win8 copy and upgrade from there.

at the current moment the only difference between a genuine copy of win 10 and a pirated copy there is a water mark in the middle of your desktop saying this is not a genuine copy of windows every other function works, however microsoft at a later date will make attempts for all pirated copies to move to a genuine copy as to how they will do this is unknown.

Pirated Windows users can upgrade to Windows 10 by Microsoft's official upgrade same as genuine users.
