Calling all IPS owners! Dell u2515h IPS Glow - Is this normal?

scottyboy

So I upgraded my trusty old 1080 Samsung monitor for a Dell U2515h IPS 2560x1440 monitor (Product Page).

Decided on an IPS as my time is split 50/50 between photo work and gaming.

I'm incredibly happy with it in terms of colour/picture quality. Photos/Games look stunning in lighted scenes.

The problem is that I seem to be getting either IPS Glow or light bleeding in the bottom corners which is very noticeable when the screen is dark. I tried it out on Alien Isolatoin and Dishonored and it's a little distacting. When I move my head closer to the corners it goes away.

The screenshot is with the brightness down to 8. I've looked online and some are saying it's a fault and others are saying it's standard IPS glow which is more noticeable with larger panels and I'll get used to it.

Is this a fault or just standard IPS Glow?

Someone else had this problem on this monitor.

I have a Dell IPS display, and it definitely doesn't have the same light bleed, if any. Blacks are black etc.

I have a U2515H en route; we'll see if mine exhibits this. My last 1440p monitor had faint IPS glow, too.

Hmm I'm wondering if I should return it. I read an very in-depth review of this monitor over at TFT central before buying and they never mentioned anything about excessive IPS glow. This is my first IPS panel and I'm not sure if it's standard or not :/

MegaDave91 - Could you do me a favour and post an update when you've had a chance to test the monitor out?

Edit - Cheers Majestic. Will be good to compare. I'll go take a couple of screens myself.

Thanks Majestic. Here's my screens. I took the photos with the blinds closed too. It looks like your monitor brightness is set a little higher than mine. I set mine to 8 when I'm in a dark room. Does it bother you a lot or have you just become used to it? Sorry if I've just drawn your attention to it and you can't think of anything else! :P

It's not terrible but with a game like Alien it can be very distracting.

I think I'll contact Dell about it as others have suggested.

Sorry Majestic, I meant that I set my brightness on the monitor to 8 when I'm gaming in a dark room. Any higher and it strains my eyes.

Yeah... mine was set to stock 50. That explains the difference. I was confused as to how low the number was.

Let me redo the photo's at 8.

EDIT @scottyboy here are the photo's with brightness set to 8.

Thanks for doing the photos again Majestic. Looks pretty much the same as mine. I found it playable with the brightness set 8 in a dark room. How do you find the issue? Does it bother you or are you used to it now?

Eh, i've had a 2312HM before this which was also an IPS. I'm def. used to it.

Ok thanks again bud. I'll live with it for a couple of weeks and see how I get on. I'll return the monitor if I can't get used to it.

MegaDave91 - If you could chip in with your findings when you get the monitor that'd be awesome :)

@scottyboy

Just received the monitor yesterday and it doesn't suffer from any unwanted glow.

@scottyboy: My U2414H's have virtually no BLB. I can't even see it on solid blacks, really. It's just if I look at blacks from a vertical angle that I see it.

But that's 14s, not 15s.
