ASUS MG279Q working on hdmi but not dp

The_Airborn

Hi, i've recently acquired a MG279Q, when installing i first tried with dp but all i got was a really small screen detected in windows and no signal on the screen itself. connecting with hdmi works like a charm, but i need the dp for freesync or 144hz functionality. Does anyone know what im doing wrong? This is what it is currently looking like in windows with both the dp and hdmi connected: http://i.imgur.com/neHYtcS http://i.imgur.com/V7lDZfr.png   http://imgur.com/EpfY1VP  http://imgur.com/oJ4sAqW   Any form of help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit, GPU is the R9 290X

Have you tried using DP while all the other monitors are disconnected, so it's just the one.

Do any other monitors use DP in your setup currently.

What connections ar occupied on your GPU currently?

I know for a fact that there are HDMI drivers installed with Catalyst, that makes me think there should be DP drivers as well - are those installed?

EDIT: Just noticed the screenshots, are you using both HDMI and DP at the same time?

Also try switching source on your monitor, should be a dedicated button, or find it under menu.

I have no other monitors currently using dp, i have two cables plugged into the dvi connections. I have also tried manually switching source on the monitor but to no avail. I have both the HDMI and Dp plugged in at the moment, but i haven't had them in at the same time while trying to get the problem fixed..

it seems like the GPU side is working just fine, but the monitor/cable fails to deliver the information needed for the GPU to send a working signal to it :/ I called the place i bought it from and they're shipping a new cable, but i'll keep trying 'till i get it.

Did you check if you need drivers for Display Port installed?

I don't quite catch what you're meaning here.. aren't those included in the amd drivers?

I believe you can manually uncheck them during installation, so they are optional

For example I don't have any HDMI drivers installed, as I only use two DVI-DL

try a different cable first

if it still is screwy...might be the monitor connection or the output of your videocard

If you need remote help fixing something on your computer

I can help over Teamviewer if you wish

As previously mentioned it works fine on HDMI, I'm gonna try with the new cable when it arrives tomorrow. Hoping for 144Hz or freesync gaming soon :D If that fails it must be the dp on either the card or the monitor... If that's the case I need to test further with another computer to find out what I have to return.. :/

  • 2 weeks later...

Same thing happening to me. Changed monitor settings from DP 1.2 to 1.1 - didn't help.

When I first plugged this monitor in to DP it worked, but it was breaking up a bit, then the resolution went down automatically (with some complaint). So I updated my Catalyst drivers from v13.something to 15.7 and now DP doesn't work at all.

HDMI works fine, but at 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz. Boo.

I assume my issue is due to the older video card - Radeon HD 6850 (although specs claim DisplayPort 1.2, Max resolution: 2560x1600 per display).

Hopefully this is a driver issue!

Edit: I updated my drivers to 15.7.1, no difference. HOWEVER, I got it to work...

I bought a full sized DisplayPort cable from Monoprice. This seems to be the fix! Several weeks now and no issues. So either the cable was garbage, or it's more likely the mDP port on the monitor.

In any case, changing refresh rate from 60 Hz to 120 Hz makes it oh so buttery smooth :)  (and yes, the monitor can do 144 Hz but apparently my video card can't).
