FX-8320 until FX-9590 (I don't really like 9xxx series)

8 cores, which can help but they're weak unfortunately....

But they get jobs done :3

8320, It's cheap and overclockable, I picked one up with a UD3H for $90 and threw it into my server and it tanks through anything I need it to in terms of gameservers and web hosting.

PEWDIEPIE DONT CROSS THAT BRIDGE

8000 series for Encoding video, anything less than the 8000 series, is stupid for an editing rig.

The FX4000 series and the FX6000 series gets outclassed by competitors in both editing and non-editing applications (games), so their not worth it when doing more than just encoding jobs on that PC.. if your doing ONLY video editing, MAYBE the FX6000 series, but I'd not wanna go that low for an editing rig.

Either time is money,... or time is to be used wisely, the faster you can go the better,..

 

But to answer your question...Only the AMD 8cores are worth it for editing, IMO of course... not a fact, just my opinion.

8320/8350 but only if you use the pc for editing and normal use.

Unfortunately, AMD CPUs fall behind in gaming (most of them) if you really want to use AMD then okay but in gaming it's they're falling behind Intel.

If you can get Intel then go for it instead.

Is it heavy? If it's heavy then i7-4790/4790K is great for you, if it's not heavy then i5-4690K works great, but 4690K isn't a must if you want cheaper i5 it's fine (i5-4460, 4590, 4690)

For gaming i5 4690k for editing and gaming id say either i7 4790k or i7 5820k but the i7 5820k is a bit more expensive option but well worth it.

If you're editing like hell then this might fit you, but in gaming i7-4790K can compete with 5820K.

Unless your HARDCORELIKEFUCK with your editing.... then the i5 is all you need,seriously..... unless your PC budget is of no matter to you...

But if your on more of a budget that you make it seem...  then the i5 is the CPU for you.

 

Lots of video programs now use the GPU to accelerate the projects... so the i7 money....the $100+ or so on top of the i5,.. should then go towards your GPU for a better gaming experience.

For gaming and light editing, the i5 4690(k) is the best bet. For heavy editing, the i7 4790(k) is the best bet. If you can't afford an i7, look at the intel xeon E3 1231 v3, as that is a locked i7 without an iGPU effectively.

On the AMD side of things, the 8000 series is pretty much your only choice if you want some decent performance, overclocked it will have a decent bit more performance.

If you are doing serious editing, look at the X99 intel series, such as the i7 5820k if you can afford it or need it.

Aah, right. E3-1231v3 is nice, keep in mind that this CPU doesn't have integrated GPU so you need to get dedicated GPU.
