Can I install a processor that is not supported?

So I found my old computer and took out the CPU so I can upgrade my mom's. I've looked up the motherboard CPU support list and my CPU is not listed there. So can I replace the CPU and both have a LGA775 socket.

I'm trying to replace her Pentium 4 520 (32-bit) with my Pentium D 830 (64-bit) and I can't use my motherboard because it's broken but the CPU is fine.

If it's not supported, then no. There's no particular reason it should work.

Can you run a truck on jet fuel? No.

Sig under construction.

you gotta get a motherboard that is compatible with that cpu... if you're trying to say if you can swap a socket for another one, you cant.

If the MB is not compatible with the CPU then it will not work! DUH!!!! But a BIOS flash may work in some cases if you are lucky!
