Can an i5 4690k be overclocked on a b85 or h81 motherboard

Hi i am  planing to build a pc and i was wondering if a h81 or b85 motherboard supports overclocking the intel i5 4690k. i heard somewhere that you need a z97 motherboard to overclock that cpu. is that true i am on a budget and the z97 is a little more expensive so  i was wondering if a h81 or b85 motherboard would do the job

also what is the difference between the chipsets.

No, you'd need a Z-board to oc.

Some do exist, but not all.

Here is an incomplete list from anandtech forums: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2389948

Those are only for oc'ing the G3258.

You can over clock other chips on them.

Please read the second post, and then google it and see. Intel does not officially support is but the mobo manufacturers can enable it.

When in doubt, re-format.

Z77 is lga 1155 and wouldn't work with the 4690k.

I haven't seen much of oc'ing on non Z-boards for Devils Canyon other than much older instances so I'm not sure if going with a non-z board is still reliable.
