Can a h81 or b85 overclock i5 4690k

Hi i am  planing to build a pc and i was wondering if a h81 or b85 motherboard supports overclocking the intel i5 4690k. i heard somewhere that you need a z97 motherboard to overclock that cpu. is that true i am on a budget and the z97 is a little more expensive so  i was wondering if a h81 or b85 motherboard would do the job

also what is the difference between the chipsets.

B85 and some H81

but with H81 you have to update the bios to even get it to work

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

my budget on a motherboard is cheap as possible i am already going over my budget without the cost of a motherboard so i am looking for one that can use my cpu properly doesnt cause bottlenecks and can overclock

Im pretty sure only a g3258 can overclock on a non z series motherboard, or at least that's what I have read. Thats why I am getting a z97 board for my g3258.

See the user manuals. At least some Asrock H81 motherboards for example, can oc unlocked (K) cpu - see OC Tweaker BIOS Screen in user manual. I believe Asus H81 motherboards are also able to overclock unlocked cpu - AI Tweaker BIOS pages.

Keep in mind that these motherboards are not designed for overclocking and may not have sufficient power regulation and distribution for good stable overclocks.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
