SKSE: "Please Update To The Latest Version Of Skyrim"

Enthusiast25

So I have the latest version of Skyrim, and I installed SKSE no problem. I followed a guide on how to launch SKSE from Steam, and it worked no problem. Now suddenly I'm getting an error message when I launch saying "Please Update To The Latest Version Of Skyrim", I  just hit OK and play the game but it's annoying that it comes every time I wanna play. Any solutions?

I assume you are not using any Mod Manager? (Like the Nexus Mod Manager or Mod Organizer)

Are you launching from SKSE or Skyrim inside of Steam? You have to launch from SKSE.

Really though, I would suggest setting your Skyrim up with Mod Organizer. it will take some time (give or take an hour, depending on how many mods you have), but it is worth it.

Gopher on YouTube has a great tutorial on it. And believe me, you will not regret setting it up.

Some mods these days are requiring the BETA versions of SKSE. My game errors each time asking for version 1.7.2 while 1.7.1 is the latest stable release.

Check you have SKSE 1.7.1 at least. You can download new versions here (http://skse.silverlock.org/)

It's also worth running LOOT to fix your load order (This guy makes good videos:

)

It sounds like the underlying problem is that your skyrim is not up to date. You could verify integrity of game cache in Steam to see what happens.

I had this problem too (what you are talking about), uninstalling my current SKSE and installing the newest (BETA I think) version fixed this.

But OP's problem sound like it is the other way around, Skyrim is not up to date.

Yeah, always use the latest version of SKSE imo. Haven't encountered many problems with the beta before.

I remember hearing about an issue where skyrims version that's listed is different from what it really is.  Or more accurately it's shortened, ie ver 1.8.5 when it's really 1.8.5.985.  It's correctly listed in the in game menu somewhere if i recall.

I don't remember where I saw others talking about it though.  Sorry if this was unhelpful, but I'd investigate verifying your version of skyrim.

:EDIT: PLEASE don't get your mods from steam!  You'll regret it, use MO and get your mods from nexus!  it still requires that steam is open and you can still use the steam overlay to interact with friends or whatever.

:edit 2:

I did not remember correctly.  It's the in game menu that gets it wrong.

Guys I have been using nexus mod manager since the beginning, and I have no conflicts in my load order; all my mods are working its just that the error message comes every time I play (even when I launch it through NMM)

Might be easier to get a screenshot or an exact word for word copy of what the error says.

Also open your system menu and see what version you have at the bottom left of the menu (your SKSE version is also listed there) (Edit: you can open system menu while in game by pressing esape)

If you can get those versions along with the exact error message we can probably offer you some more accurate help rather than just guessing at potential causes :P

I just recently started getting something like that myself.  When I open skyrim and get to the main menu, I get notified that there is a new version available for download.  Not an error message though.

Oddly I can't seem to update skyrim or the CK to get that message to go away.  I'm rocken SKSE1.7.2 too, so I was thinking it may be a message for ENB/ENBoost(which feels odd), but they're the only ones I can tell that have made changes and noted them in a change log.

Additionally I did verify my installation in steam in an attempt to kick this update process/message in the nuts and get it to do something.  Steam downloaded 5.7GB for 6 files it deemed to be unfit, and I am still getting the update message.

And before anyone suggests it, no I did not steal TESV.  Well, I did get it on one heck of an effing sale which is close I guess, but I didn't force them to sell at 75% off.

Anyways, for better or worse seems you've got company now.
