PS Vita?

Pyromaniac225

So for a while I was thinking of picking up a PSP for some Japanese titles among other things. However, is the PS Vita just a newer PSP?

From what I can tell this seem to be the case.

If I'm right then you can ignore the above blurb.

What I really want to know is, is the PS Vita good value? Like, build quality etc.

I know an electronic really only has as much value as how much you use it.

Thoughts on buying one?

Also, are PSP games compatible with PS Vita?

The engine roars but then it gives, but never dies

We don't live we just survive

On the scraps that you throw awaaaaaay

PSP uses UMD while the PSV uses another way to boot games, they look like DS cartridges.

yes you can play PSP games on it. there are also tons of japanese titles on the vita like P4G and neptunia which are really great.

If you're buying one, the original vita has better build quality and better screen than the slim IMO.

I'm not sure if the screen quality is better than the 1000 version.  I've heard it called oversaturated, and the dreaded OLED splotches are there quite often.  The second is the deal breaker for me.  The Vita Slim is quite nice in terms of build quality, and doesn't feel cheap by any stretch of imagination.  It's simply slimmer, and while the colors aren't quite as popping and the such, they remain quite excellent for a handheld gaming device.

As in a previous thread.  I'll say this again.  Consider what kind of games you want out of your handheld, and buy accordingly.  The Vita has a pretty great library of JRPGs.  The 3DS tends to be more well rounded.  Sadly the Vita can't accept PSP UMDs, but it does have access to a huge digital library that has pretty decent sales quite often.

One issue though.  If you want Japanese games, and you are outside japan, you'll need to import physical copies to the US to play said games.  At least I haven't figured out how to play/buy digital titles from the PSN store.

What are some Japanese games worth importing

24 fps for that "cinematic" feel

After a couple weeks of behavioral sciences at my school I can easily conclude my parents need to grow up.

Persona 4 Golden is quite wonderful, but I've yet to beat it... might restart since it's been months since I've played it.  I can also recommend Gravity Rush, Wipeout 2048, and Muramasa Rebirth.  Akiba'Strip is amusing, but it does have a few issues here and there.  By and large... it has an excellent library for the West, and I imagine the Japanese library is even better.

@mrswagbhinav: Sadly I can't help you too much there.  I'm still fairly new to the Vita scene, and frankly the games I was looking towards playing have gotten US localization.  I'd imagine quite a few VNs never made it over here.

PSVita is good if you're after Japanese titles but don't have enough to get a PS3...

Go for it.

As for PSP, the platform's dead... Last game that went out for it afaik is SAO:IM back in '13...
