Used GPU help!

slifer

So I've been looking around and this is what Ive found:

MSI R9 290 reference for $250 CAD

MSI R9 280X Twin frozr for $190 CAD

MSI R9 290 Twin frozr for $300

Which one seems like a better deal? I play mostly GTA V and will soon be playing Rainbow Six if it's good. I can try to talk the guy lower but at which prices would you buy these cards at? Or should I look for different brands?

Be careful with buying used high end AMD cards as they were usually used for mining.

Look into some used stuff from Nvidia

Or would you just suggest that I get a new card that performs worse?

Would like to spend between 200-300 CAD max could do slightly more.

For that budget you could get a 280x or 960. If you save just a little more you could get a 970

I would say try to buy a card used when a new card starts being availiable in stores (R9 300 series, 980 TI/Metal) because all the graphics snobs will go out and buy new cards for a extra 5 fps and the used market gets flooded with R9 290X's, 980's, and 970,s. Back when the titan x came out I saw year old titan Black's going for 500-600 bucks for a 6gb card.

How long would I have to wait for that?

If I can find a GTX970 for around 399.99 on the next NCIX sale should I get it? I'm looking at EVGA, Gigabye, MSI and Asus cards mainly.

Considering you live in Vancouver, the prices for those cards are some-what okay.

If you can talk the price down for the R9-280X closer to $150, that would be a hell of a deal.

The R9-290's seems to bit expensive though. I've seen a few used non-reference R9-290's here, on the island, go for $200~$250.

I have been seeing 280(vanilla) and 285's for 180.00usd. If I were to buy a new card for under $200 I would get one of those.

Don't buy a used AMD card, there's a good chance it was used for mining. I would save for a used 970 or a new 290.
