Planed FreeNas Build

Night_Rider0

This storage box will serve as both storage for my ESXI host to eliminate the painfully slow Intel raid card that has served it the first year or two of its life you can see the hardware in its current configuration by clicking here this new server will serve to store live virtual machines running on the esxi host which will be installed to local drive and use iscsi to connect the 2 servers together to give the host the ability to run the virtual machine from the remote disk so this system needs to be fairly quick in order to keep up transfer speeds between the two of them as quick as the gigabit link between them can go. it will also serve as network storage

So i will essentially use new and used parts in tandem to make 1 system into 2 hopefully faster systems so here goes nothing

since you going to purchase almost every essential parts for your nas

why not get this http://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=C2750D4I#Specifications

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157475

it's so far the most recommended hardware for NAS

it's not desktop grade, it is server grade

12 Sata ports, Octa core, Dual Intel LAN

since you going to bought additional sata card (which probably will have problems with driver/hardware raid, if you are lucky through that working part)

but again.. it's your choice, FreeNas unlike the old "freenas" which using old hardware (or rather desktop parts) for this stuff again.

I appreciate the feedback thats what this forum is for i will consider it because it might even be cheaper then the original system i was going to build!
