$300 is not really enough to get a decent rendering rig friend.. I would suggest i7 4820k and an x79 motherboard with 8GB RAM for a decent rendering rig. That is just my suggestion and you should listen to others too. I am primarily into gaming but do a little bit of 4K rendering and my CPU is good enough for that (4820K).

I presume you're in the USA.

I'd replace your current CPU with a Xeon and replace your RAM with 12GB.

EDIT: Make sure to allocate the RAM in Vegas

About every piece of your setup is keeping you from having fast renders.

Nowadays the recommend specs for a good rendering pc:

- Hyperthreaded Quadcore (Either I7 or Xeon)

- Current-day GPU (Nvidia 7oo series and higher + or Amd 200 Series and higher)

- 8gb of ram

Buy a Pentium G3258 and a GTX960. About $280

That budget is way too low for a rendering rig

I'd replace your current CPU with an i5 and replace your RAM with 12GB. What program do you use?

i5 for a good rendering rig and 12GB of ram...? Seems very odd for me. Why the 12GB?

Allocating extra RAM in Vegas (and in any editing program really) does speed up rendering quite a bit. It's also one of the only circumstances that having high speed RAM will help too.

What about the cpu? Why not an i7 in your opinion?

Becuase i7s are overpriced and a Xeon would be a better choice, it's just that it's the holiday and i cba to do maths :P

Xeon or i7 would be a better choice but you picked an i5 ;) If I was OP I'd wait a bit more and get an i7/Xeon.

I've edited my original post. A Xeon would be better for the OP.
