Periodic freezing with crossfire:

Tacitus

Hey everyone, so today I installed my second 290x and have been playing some games to test it out. Been playing the Witcher 2 again, and I'm in the third act and epilogue section, where periodically my PC has completely frozen. I'd not be too miffed normally if it was once in a while, but in one particular section it froze twice within 5 minutes, requiring PC restart each time.

I know crossfire is working, it has taken me from average 45 fps to 60 fps minimum (ultra settings, using VSR @ 3200x1800p), I'm really enjoying it, but this didn't ever happen when I had an Nvidia GPU (admittedly it was just one, and I got my 290xs together, so didn't really play much with just one).

Anyone know what might be causing it and how I can fix it?

Reinstall your drivers and double check the clock speeds ect.

"45 ACP because shooting twice is silly!"

It could be that the PSU can't output enough power with bronze efficiency, though a freeze would generally lead me to think unstable. Check both cards when in-game for power draw and clockspeed etc with afterburner/precisionX/your fave utility.

Reinstalled drivers just this morning, clock speeds have been stable @ 1050 all day, power consumption is a good 150W lower in TW2 than in something like DA:I

The PSU is fine, I'm using an energy measuring device as I wasn't sure about it either being a 750W PSU. But see above. TW2 was drawing from the wall no more than 500-520W.

How can I view this?

At any rate, I did get past it by disabling crossfire, then I saved the game, exited it, put CF back on, and finished the game.

You can download WhoCrashed for a simple look at the crash report. It should tell you what was causing the crashes.
