Good color printer

79wjd

What would be a good printer -- preferably one that doesn't drink ink/toner, and has at least decent image quality (and/or has a setting for special photo paper).

/Having support for special photo paper isn't that important, it would just be nice.

$200~ I guess....I don't really have a budget...I just don't know what printer has a high quality image/doesn't cost a fortune to run.

I usually get annoyed at people who do this....but...What about the HP 8100? http://store.hp.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/us/en/pdp/printers/hp-officejet-pro-8100-eprinter---n811a-n811d

The only reason I'd consider going with an inkjet is (at least it used to be this way) because laserjets often didn't like photo paper -- and couldn't quite compete with inkjets in terms of image quality (although, like I said, this is still more-or-less a secondary concern).

Normally I would agree, but ink appears to have become cheaper -- the ink for the HP8100 is like $15/cartridge and prints 750 pages while the Brother printer is $90/cartridge for 2000~ pages.

And presumably the HP8100 produces higher quality prints and has the ability to print on photo paper, which I'm not sure about on the HL-3140CW.

true, id go for that then, but remember you will be missing the warm paper feeling with an inkjet :P

I don't really print anything anyways, it's mostly for my parents.

Bump

Any thoughts?

Looking for something that's comparatively cheap (or at least comparable to others) to run, and prints good quality photos (although it will be mainly used for random printing here and there). It also should have wifi (although, that's pretty standard these days).

So far I'm thinking HP8100, but from what I've read it's not great for photos. (good photo quality prints would fall under the "would be nice, but not necessary" category).
