Air Cooling or Water Cooling?

Bravosgrad

Pretty much. Looking for something to keep an overclocked 4690k nice and cool in my new build.

These are the main 2 I am looking at ATM.

I've had 3 different types of cooling. Corsair H105, NH-D15 and a custom loop.

custom loop > NH-D15 > Corsair H105

= i think that air cooler is better than a closed loop

I'd go dor the Dark Rock. You'll get almost the same performance as with the H100i with less noise and for less money.

The price is the same, how much of a sound difference should I be expecting?

If you have good enough airflow, you can have the fans on the cooler turn off completely under low load. Any liquid cooling will have to have atleast the pump on at all times.

If the price is the same where you're buying it, I'd still go with the dark rock. The only moving parts are two very good bequiet fans, whereas the H100i comes with two crappy fans and a pump that tends to make noise and also adds an additional point of failure.

This^

The fans that come with the Corsair Hydro Series CPU coolers aren't great at all, fairly noisy and annoying actually.

I'd go with the air cooler, looks mean and the only thing that can go wrong is the fans.

well yeah it performs better but i prefer a cooler like NH-D15 over an AIO shit loop, my corsair was loud as hell

I'd agree with the notch solution being the one to go to, in my opinion. dark rock is, as suggest , a great option too.

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

I've got the Dark Rock Pro 3. It's whisper quiet, looks great and provides excellent cooling.

However, it's a serious PITA to install...

Dark Rock Pro 3. When the pump in that H100i inevitably goes bad and starts making annoying noises, provided this isn't the case on arrival, it'll be louder than any fan.
