eGPU enclosure opinions needed.

Firearm2112

While waiting for some of my components to arrive, i have been planning out how I will fit everything into my makeshift holder. I already placed the PSU inside since thats what I have so far, other stuff ordered on its way. I made a quick diagram in photoshop how I think it will look. I'm sure on almost everything besides the fan placement. Also, one thing I didnt make, where the GPU sits, there will be cut outs for the GPU fans. For now, I am using a plastic box as it as MUCH easier to dremel into then metal or some kind of glass. I will be doing a revision of it later down the road. I do have the lid to it, but plan running it without it, unless it would be a good idea to put fans on it

This is for an external graphics card setup enclouser. No im not using this for a case... >.>

Please let me know what you think. Here is the PSD file if you would like to help: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ajt3nfsqvf7e6vy/eGPU%20diagram.psd?dl=0

Thanks guys

How will the GPU's outputs be oriented?

I will cut where the square labeled Thunderbolt and GPU outputs. It will be oriented vertically.

Do you think the fan intake an exhausts are positioned good?

its all good, i wouldnt cut anything before you have them where you want them though.

i would wait till you have all the fans and components befoer you even begin cutting holes fo rthe fans.

also, i reccomend cutting a hole for the gpu fans (once you have it) if the orientation makes the fans go up against the wall.

Its ok.

I waited for the PSU to come before I cutted for that. I plan on doing the same with other parts. And yes, holes for the GPU fans are a must, already planning on that.

Hope you have a better day tomorrow  :)

@ Firearm2112 have you considered using an mITX case as an enclosure for everything later (not as a temporary setup)?

I plan on saving up for a cooler master mini itx case for a permanent setup. This is very temporary just to make sure everything works

Sell your macbook, and get an alienware 13 (which costs around $1000). Then buy the external GPU enclosure for the alienware 13 (which costs like $300) and boom , everything is settled. The enclosure comes with the PSU, it's own adapter, etc etc etc. No need to make a fancy enclosure.

Ehhh, I dislike Alienware. i bought a Mac for a lot of key applications in OSX and its ability to dual boot into windows.

I think you should put a hole over the gpu fans and only have exhaust fans.

Already planned on doing that. I will be giving the gpu access to fresh air directly from outside the case.
