Windows 7 -> 8.1

JLCitadel

I bought Windows 7 (OEM) one year ago from Microcenter (still have receipt of purchase)

Questions:

1: Can I exchange it for an upgrade to 8 somehow?

2: Can I have it installed with the same key on multiple PCs? (My laptop and desktop)

3: Any extra information I should be aware of? (Operating systems and Software are my weak points with computers)

1. Nope you can't exchange it, especially since after you activated the key.

2. No you can't install on multiple computers using the same key.

3. Don't get 64 bit version if your PC is 32 bit.

So what step should I take going forward at this point? Just install it on my desktop and run a cracked version on laptop?

Wah, I don't encourage using pirate stuff. It's up to you.

Or, on one of your PC, you can try Linux. It's free. If you don't need to run any specific design, engineering, photoshop and video editing programs, Linux Mint is very easy to use. Similar to Windows XP/7.
