PS3 that was tossed no longer works.

d3sl91

Was given a PS3 to fix for someone, and was told "it was tossed into storage".

As in, actually tossed.

It "worked for a little bit, but not really" and now it no longer works. The unit now turns on, accesses HDD shortly, and has a green light. But no video.

Thoughts before i tear it apart and look for broken solder joints?

First off, if it was physically tossed, more than likely a port has broken loose at the terminals on the PCB, or some solder connections on the cell chip itself have broken loose.

So, I was originally trying to use an HDMI-DVI adapter.... nope.

So, I just tried an hdmi cable to my reciever (which i didnt try before, as its a pain to get to) and I just get strange colors and lines.

Going to try a known good cable next....

Known good cable, same thing, then I wiggled the connection,a nd it went away, just black now.

Have a feeling the HDMI port is toast (at best) or the VGA chip is damaged.
