What is Folding@home,Boinc,and Coin Mining?

Folding@home is a way to allocate unused PC resources to helping to research cures for diseases such as, ALS, Alzheimers, and cancers. It is the largest distributed computing project as of right now. It is completely voluntary and you can uninstall the program at any time you wish. BOINC is a way to manage and consolidate projects into a single manager. For example, in BOINC manager, I have many different projects including Poem@home, Atlas@home, etc.

and coin mining is running simulations on how to best search through peoples couches for coins. results are published monthly in Coins n' Couches magazine.

coin mining is (basically) searching through complex block chains of data to find virtual coins that are usable/exchangeable as/for currency. hardly viable these days unless you have a proper ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) miner.
