Which cpu cooler?

somePcNoob

So I'm planning on building my first pc for gaming and uni (engineering degree so some 3d modelling might be in there somewhere) and I was wondering what cpu cooler I should get as there are so many out there.  Also I am planning on overclocking hence the aftermarket cooler  This is my proposed build:

CPU - Intel Core i5-4690K CPU 3.5GHz Socket H3 LGA-1150 (£169)

CPU Cooler - ?????

Motherboard – ASUS Mod 1150 Z97-A (£118)

GPU - EVGA Nvidia GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Card (£283)

RAM - G-Skill 8GB Ripjaws X DDR3 2133 Dual Kit (£63)

PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 650W G1 (£72)

Optical - Samsung 24x Retail SATA DVD Writer (£12)

SSD - Crucial CT128 MX100 SSD1 128GB MX100 SATA 2.5 Inch 7mm SSD (£50)

HDD - WD 1TB 3.5 inch Internal Hard Drive - Caviar Blue (£40)

Case – Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (£71)

These are the coolers I'm currently considering is ascending price order (max budget is about £50):

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO / 412s

ARTIC Cooling Freezer Xtreme Rev.2

Thermalright True Spirit 120 M BW Rev.A

Be quiet BK013 Shadow Rock 2

Scythe SCMG-4000 Mugen 4

Zero Infinity Shiva SHI-001GS

Thermaltake NiC C4

Noctua NH-U9B SE2

Any advice is much appreciated!

Depends how much you want to overclock it. I'd personally go 212 EVO and save up for an NH-D15 if I wasn't satisfied.

If you can afford the nhd15 that would be the one to go for but the evo 212 keeps up with my maximum overclock so its a great value, I can't get a better overclock even with a h110. So don't be afraid the cooling with that is inadequate.

I recommend the Be Quiet Shadow Rock 2 for the CPU cooler. The Be Quiet cooler seems to perform better than Cooler Master hyper 212 Evo, and is also quieter. If you want a quiet build I suggest getting a different Power Supply the EVGA Supernova G1 power supplies have noisy fans (I own the Supernova G1 750W). However, I think EVGA from what I read fixed the noisy fan issue with the Supernova G2.
