Overclocking i7 3770k with Hyper 212 Evo.

I was able to get Prime 95 running at a stable clock of 4.4 Ghz over night, but the temperature was around 80 degrees celcius. I wanna know if these are normal temperatures for this cooler and cpu at around 1.2v.

My PC: i7 3770k @ 4.4 Ghz || Hyper 212 Evo || Intel Extreme Motherboard DZ77GA || EVGA Hybrid 980ti || Corsair Vengeance Blue 16GB || Samsung 840 Evo 120 GB || WD Black 1TB

 

Peripherals: Corsair K70 RGB || Sentey Pro Revolution Gaming Mouse || Beyerdynamic DT 990 Premium 250 Ohm Headphone || Benq XL2420Z Monitor

Last time i overclocked my 3770k it barely hit 65* with my Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro rev2 cooler @4,5
You might have a bad chip  :(

You might have a bad chip  :(

so long as volts are ok 80c is fine.

 

@op what volts are you using?

I'm at around 1.2v at 100% load. If I plan to upgrade my cooler in the future what should be the maximum voltage and temperatures I should look at to achieve a higher clock?

most people agree that 1.35v is all you should go to for everyday use and temps under 80c

Cool. Last question, is Prime 95 the program the I should be using for my stress test? Or is there a more practicle test out there that I should be using. If Prime 95 is the best one, what preset should I be using, Small FFTs or a custome one?

It shouldnt matter as long as you dont have auto voltage adjusting on; there is some intel test that is supposed to be better but it shouldnt matter.

It shouldnt matter as long as you dont have auto voltage adjusting on; there is some intel test that is supposed to be better but it shouldnt matter.

OCCT linpac with AVX and all cores enabled is what i use, tom form oc3d also uses it.
