Does anyone notice more bass on leather pads vs. velour pads? [Kingston HyperX Cloud]

ebhsimon

I notice more bass, but I don't know if this is a placebo effect, also the leather pads are way softer than the velour ear pads.

Got mine today, I noticed better noise cancellation on the leather pads.

Not sure if they make a better seal, although it makes sense that they would, because the velour ear pads are harder than the leather ones the clamping force feels a lot greater on the velours.

Not only do I feel they make a better seal, I think they are far more comfortable.

I really should buy a pair. They seem to be the Jesus of gaming headsets.

TBH They're more for music than gaming imo. My G230s which are half the price have a much deeper bass which makes FPS gaming a lot more enjoyable. But then again, I've only had my HyperX Clouds for a few hours...

EDIT: The mic is better on the HyperX Clouds, but not by much... the G230s are actually pretty good too.

Give it time. Humans tend to prefer whichever things that are already familiar to them. Well, unless the new thing is a very noticeable upgrade. Use it for 1-2 weeks, then whip out your old headset and compare it again.

Yes, leather pads will increase the bass response because it seals better around your ears versus velour/cloth pads.

Bass is not better for competitive FPS. It drowns footsteps. it would only make eksplosions more awesome ;-)

Honestly, gaming isn't that much about bass as it drowns out mids and highs so you cannot accurately detect where sounds are coming from. IF games were all about bass, I'd stuck with my Razer Black Shark which has bass in spades. I can use the Black Shark for games, movies and music, way......waaaaaaaayyy better than that POS Black Shark.

As for velour vs leatherette, I did comment about it here:

With my G230s I could pretty accurately tell where people were running from, and it was easier to turn up the sound because of the slightly held back high end. But then again, as creatip123 said, I just might not be used to these.

I actually tested out the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros, Q701s, HE-400s, HE-400i's, HE-500s, HD558s, HD598s, ATH-M50x and my G230s had more bass than each and every one of them - which I liked.
