Sennheiser HD700

THE-FUZZ15

I don't even care about the hd700's

I'm just disappointed @Lays never asked me if I could fix his lcd2's. :(

Perhaps he's worried you'd go ahead and turn his LCD2 into a LED2.....

forget HD700, buy instead the Audio Technica ATH-W1000X.  I've listened extensively to both them at Best Buy's Magnolia section and the Audio Technica to me sounds substantially better even though it's not an open back headphone.  For a closed can, the w1000x has an incredible soundstage.

HD600 and 650 never appealed to me, dunno why. Sounds too flat for me, thus, 'less fun'.

Overall, HD800 is better than 700, in the sense of clarity, frequency separation, and the crazy wide soundstage. HD700 sounds very warm with smooth (not necessarily big, but smooth) bass. I like warm tone, that's why I love the 700 more than 800.

I'd say the 700 and 800, being the top of the line, got very distinct sound signatures that you 'either like it or not'.

Edit: there's also a possibility of amps. I think the 700 and 800 are very sensitive to what amp it's using (sensitive to sound coloration), so those people who gave bad reviews, maybe using an amp that the 700 'don't like'. Tried the 800 first time with an ALO amp (international or something), and second time with the sennheiser amp, along with the 700.

I've never heard the HD600, but I do like the HD650, especially with the Cardas replacement cable. Compared with the HD800 I find the HD650 to be 'easier' to listen to and more forgiving of poor quality recordings, though it does sound much more muffled and constrained in both the top and low ends than the HD800.

And the HD800 is definitely picky about the amp that's used with it. I've tried it with both my Naim Headline and my Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus, with the Headline being the clear winner. I'd be very interested to try them with either a good quality tube amp or with Sennheiser's own HDVA600 or HDVD800.

One of the yolks was slightly bent when I got them and I carefully bent it back into place, and now the paint is peeling off where it was bent, so audeze agreed to fix it and they even paid for two day shipping!

I don't understand why a top of the line headphone has to have a distinct sound signature. In fact, to be an accurate headphone, it needs to be as flat as possible... not have its own personality.

The HD800s are hyped at the treble, that alone will make it sound less muffled, more in your face, more detailed, less forgiving, more fatigueing.

*Insert more BS about HD800s being picky here*

OP still hasn't replied or stated why he is picking the HD700s. Did he just look at his budget, look at the most expensive Sennheiser headphone he can afford, and decide based on that? Feels like OP is less involved than the people answering...

Was choosing between the HD800, HD700 and HD650... Brought my own music to the store, sat there for 2hrs listening to each set of headphones... Not trying to be a dick but I had the budget for 800's and walked out with 650's.Found the HD800 & 700 way to fatiguing for me (Highs way to bright for the music i listen to).

My suggestion is to bring your own media and listen to it for a decent amount of time on different sets of headphones to make sure you are making the right choice.
