How to measure distance on google maps manually?

TigerBoy

Hello,

I wanted to ask if it is possible to draw your own line going to a direction using google maps on a desktop web browser?

I want to go from point A to point B using "directions" but it always uses the main roads and not tight short cuts that are walkways like small alleys and foot bridges. When i try to shift the line to the alley, it does not use it and makes the distance farther.

I just wanted to measure the walking distance of the two points since the distance using the alley ways are 1/5 the length (rough estimate). I need to compute it roughly using google maps if such is possible.

Cheers to everyone =)

There's a scale on  the side. Grab a ruler and put it on the screen.

string can also work. but its well.. hard since.. well.. its a screen.

You might be able to find an app on your phone that can measure it. id personally try before trying to guesstimate with a ruler and string on google.

:Edited to try and add some useful help instead of just being an ass.

@Captain_Slow ,

I was actually doing that, but it still did not use the short cut (the alley is not registered on Gmaps as well as the foot bridges)

@vtprojects,

that tool worked perfectly for my needs =)

@The String/Ruler idea

tried it but was off by 400meters >.>

Cheers and Thanks =)
