Looking for a good silent fan!

TrueOgre

Hey guys, I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with the noise of my stock CPU heat sink and fan. I was wondering if anyone knew any good Air Cooling OR Liquid Cooling systems (that are relatively quieter than stock gear) for around the $85USD mark, or even direct me to another thread/video. That would be greatly appreciated :)

What you need to know: I have an AMD A8 6600K, FM2/FM2+ socket motherboard. Thanks :)

For fans, I'd go for the NB BlackSilent Pros. As for the cooler, if you're not needing anything very high performing, you can go with something like the CM Hyper 212 EVO.

Cougar CFV12HPB's are my favourite quiet fans, though not super cheap and I'm not sure about availability in Australia. A cheaper Cougar option would be their Turbine series, usually available in 4 packs for a much more wallet friendly price.

As for CPU coolers, a 212 EVO is ideal price to performance for most people. I would replace the fan, but that of course increases cost.

In my experience, which is limited, the Corsair SP120 fans are relatively quiet.

I would suggest getting something like this: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_23&products_id=22315 and maybe putting one of the SP120 on it.

Sp120s are actually very loud compared to most high end fans, also cheap 120mm rad are notorious for having stupidly loud pumps, So I would say avoid them.

As for the cooler, anything from noctua in your price bracket (U14s, D14,D15) will do as they only quieter you can get is with a massive custom loop. As for fans get some noiseblocker blacksilent pros as they are relatively cheap in europe.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies :)

I have heard quite quite good reviews for both the Hyper 212 EVO and Noctua Fans, so I'll definitely think about a mixture of the two.

I have heard/seen a few assembly videos where they cannot attach the Noctua 120 fan to the hyper 212, but I'll figure something out :)

Thanks again for all your replies, It's really given me more direction to a good choice :D

If you are going to buy the CM Hyper 212 and a noctua fan, you might as weel get the noctua u12. Easier to install, more heatpipes, better cooling, already comes with a NF-F12 Fan, and will work out to be close to the same price. I think the 212 is around $35, and a Nostua NF-F12 is around $25. The noctua u12 is around $65. $5 more bucks and you get a better cooler.

Here are a good list of coolers that are quiet for the cpu you have -

Hi guys, I appreciate your inputs, but there aren't many Noctua stockists here in New Zealand (either there's no stock, or the one reliable stockist prices it very unreasonably). That's why I'm more inclined to use the Hyper 212 (which has been "assured" to be great value for money, and has great prices here in NZ), and get a Noctua fan or two shipped over (which actually does work out cheaper for me). Hope you guys don't disapprove of this, but I just can't afford to spend much more than $110 for CPU cooling.
