Sound card for microphone?

Guest

So I just switched over to Windows 8 and it turns out the manufacturer of my former audio card died a bit ago, so my Auzentech Bravura doesn't work anymore. I've now connected my microphone to my motherboard (P8P67 Pro) and apparently the sound of my microphone is either really low or fuzzy with static depending on my settings. I use an external DAC/Amp for my headphones so that's a non-issue, and now I'm looking for a semi-decent sound card to carry the signal cleanly. Trying to pay as little as possible and I was thinking of picking up a Xonar 5.1 or some other budget card. Basically, my friend reports that my microphone sounds much much worse since I switched.

Couple of things:
-Yes it's in the right jack, at the back of the motherboard and not on the front of the case
-I use a Zalman ZM1 mic
-Volume boost brings my volume to a reasonable level, but introduces some unpleasant sounds

Any opinions? Advice?

I think there are some drivers made for your soundcard by the community, but I don`t remeber the name. I think I found it http://www.hardwareheaven.com/community/threads/pax_azt_bravura_2013_v1-00-welcome-to-new-driver-set-7-22-13-add-new-prologic-ini-a.223274/

I tried those before but I don't know if they're for Win8.1... I'll try installing them in compatibility, though I'm not sure that'll do anything. It wouldn't even get the devices to appear in the sound board.

I'm pretty sure it's just a reupload because it doesn't work on 8.1

It's really annoying and I don't understand why the on board sound card is so dumb.
