looking for an aftermarket cooler.

I am looking for a good heatsink and fan for my PC one that can clear my ram and provide good cooling for my CPU. I was wondering what coolers you have used and what you would recomend, for my CPU. socket: LGA 1155, MB: P8Z68-V, Case: Corsair 650D.

 

I was looking at the Noctua NH-U12P http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608014. But acording to some of the reviews Ive seen the cooler takes up 2 RAM slots.

 

I dont care too much about noise as I have a great headset that I just dont hear the PC, but I would also like it to be relitivly quiet when I am doing things like watching a video with speakers where the CPU does not need to be running hard. pricing < $70 CAD.

Be quiet and Cooler master are my favorites for air cooling. You also might want to look into a closed loop liquid cooling kit. The h100i is REALLY popular.

Some of the CPU only coolers like the ones from Corsair have dropped down to a decent enough price, I just never done Water cooling at all. Have looked into it, but the custom loops are out of my price range. The premade ones for CPU coolers only, I have not looked at, at all. How good are they?

You'll need to do a bit of reading to confirm this, but I believe the fan will block RAM slots, not the heatsink. You can either raise the fan mount slightly, or switch to a pull fan configuration. Both are straightforward.

 

Edit: This list should tell you if your motherboard is compatible
