Reference 780 Ti or EVGA SC ACX 780?

Yuval
Go to solution Solved by APrettyCoolWalrus,

The OC does close to nothing, get the reference 780 Ti. It looks nice too. As for dual 7950s, it does slightly better than a 780. All this is coming from an owner of an EVGA 780.

As my GPU died on me, i'm considering a plan B in the case the retailer won't repair my 7950. I planned crossfire with another 280X.

so if this can't be done, i still want to get similar performance out of this upgrade, and preferable from a single card solution. So i looked around in local retailers and saw a Reference, Zotac GTX 780 Ti would cost me about as much as a 780 EVGA SC ACX edition, i wanted to know which one of the two, after being OC'd and everything, which one will be better? run quieter? Thanks for the feedback!

Oh and also, i wanted to know if a single 780 Ti will perform as well as two 7950 clocked at 1070 core.

:/

The ACX is louder than reference AFAIK but cools about 10c better AFAIK.

So a 780 Ti (not 780) would outperform two 7950s?

But the ACX is cooler running than the reference card.

Oh and also, would there be a difference in the chips quality (binning or how it's called) between reference cards from Zotac, Gigabyte , MSI and so on? same product but price is 100$ less on the Zotac

Depends on the chip, not manufacturer. You might get a good quality Zotac chip, but a crappy Gigabyte chip, and same with the other.

Alright well it seems like i got my answer, a 780Ti is the best choice for me, if i can't get a CFX 7950 setup going, which will be much cheaper. Thanks for the quick answers everyone!

What resolution are you playing at?

1080p, but when g sync is availble i will buy 1440p most likely.

Also would a 620W 80+ bronze PSU support this monster? the more i think about this it seems to make more sense then CFX, as i can also sell my 7950

If you are for sure going to go 1440p, then go for the 780Ti.  Don't forget about the R9 290, that is an amazing card for the price, and will scale better at higher resolutions than the 780.

620W is more than enough for a single CPU + GPU both overclocked.  Don't Xfire.

Don't want AMD, i could really use shadowplay.

The 780ti will run a good bit faster.  I'm not too keen on the Zotac brand though.  Honestly if it was me I would get the EVGA one and use the step-up program when the 880 is released since it's rumored to be in October (that's what I'm doing with my 780).  You'd be taking a risk though because there is no guarantee that the 880 will indeed be released then.
