" just one more upgrade " ...

Cl2G

Oops...

2 years and a few thousand dollars later I'm glad to say my personal gaming rig is complete, for now. maybe just one more upgrade.....  :D

The final build list:

3770k 4.6ghz 1.288v

maximus v gene

evga 780ti classified 1320mhz/7500mhz 1.336v

samsung 840 evo 256g

western digital veliciraptor 1tb

corsair dominator platinum 8g 1600 cas 8.

corsair h 100

corsair ax 750

corsair 350 d

ben q xl2420z 144hz

corsair m-45

I started off with a medium range pc before, 2500k, thermaltake case, psu and fans, asus z77 board and a gtx 660. this was ok for a few months but I realized, there is more out there...

Nicer Board, New Case, alright we're rockin!

post-88386-0-28275300-1407212572.png

this was good enough for another few months, until a few friends got into overclocking their 670's and I had to join the fun,  I ran one for a few months and two for the last month or so. I still love the 670 more than any card to this day, it oc'ed like a beast and hit all the right points in the sweet spot, price , performance, aesthetics...!

post-88386-0-25592200-1407212610_thumb.j

after the 670 run I wanted just a single card with 4g to handle modded games and help maintain high fps as a single card solution, sold the 670's, got a 680 4g.

notice how sloppy my cabling still is?  :D

post-88386-0-31221800-1407212731_thumb.j

this setup was awesome, but I thought I had to upgrade again....... new psu, new gpu, 2500k dialed in at 5.0ghz should be enough right?

post-88386-0-13173500-1407212780_thumb.j

I had the 780 on Skyn3t and at 1228 / 7000 mhz 1.212V for nearly 6 months, the longest I've stayed with a configuration so far...

By this time I had a new desk and was getting tired of the bulky 650D,

a great case, one of the best made ones I've owned still.. but it was too big, too heavy and I didnt use any of it's features making it necessary

enter the Matx stage.

Talked my best friend out of his flawless ASUS maximus V Gene matx board, trading him my Z77 pro , ram and some cash ( he won on this deal by about $50 )

needed a case, looked for a month or so, coming to the corsair 350D as my choice. a neat, tidy little bugger

post-88386-0-16419600-1407213071_thumb.j

now with a 780 and a 2500k at 5.0, I figured what else could I get out of this system? 1080p was covered, high settings were covered, I was only stuck at 60fps and that seemed to be a problem now for fps, when it had been ok for so long before .....

Enter the Ben q XL2420Z, 144hz.

wow.

144 hz. that's all I will say.

post-88386-0-66430400-1407213179_thumb.j

this was probaby the biggest upgrade I have done so far, going up to 100 + fps took my gaming experience to new heights, in terms of skill and enjoyment...!

but two is always better than one right?

twins.

post-88386-0-44188400-1407213265_thumb.j

now I could game and data log / read / multi task like a champ....    or so I thought,

the i5 was begining to hold me back in some applications and games, even if at a great frequency, the cache size and limit of 4 cores was showing, regardless of what anyone says for gaming an i7 IS the better choice....

Might have been bored, Might have been crazy,

but a 780 ti classified seemed what I wanted.. a quick order and a few days later, back on the build table...

this time with more " uumph "

hey, looks like I've got this cabling nonsense figured out, as well as ditching mechanical drives for an ssd...! not bad for my first 1 1/2 year into pc's.

with all of the " Hardware " taken care of for now it was time to touch up on the little things.... details I guess...

got bored again, dmm time.

Ln2 goodies in progress, as well as an lga 2011 board............. it never ends does it?

everything has been sold as I upgrade, one of the ways I've actually been able to do this. I luckily have 3 / 4 friends who build and game here as well as a local IT shop that does custom builds on the side where my hardware goes :)

Ebay? Or friends? Or bulletin board @ University/School?

Just left school for a full time apprenticeship/Job at a computer support company so school is a no go. All m school friends that I haven't seen in ages all buy pre-built machines :P Actually I think there is a small pc shop in Chester that might buy them!

mostly friends, people buy and sell and it's more reliable locally because they know me and how I treat my hardware,

every card I've ever had is still working even after heavy oc's, voltage mods, software / bios mods etc...

that's the only way I could keep building, ebay I wouldnt rely on and forum sales are always iffy to me...!
