Sapphire R9 290 Tri-OC Black screen

Hi Guys

I keep getting black screen's when I'm opening games (BF4, Hitman Absolution).

Other stuff works fine (ASUS PC Diagnostics stress gpu test, AIDA64 benchmark,...)

I'm running the following specifcations:

Mobo: Asus sabertooth z87

CPU: Intel i5 4670k

CPU Cooler: H90

PSU: RM 750

RAM: 16gig Corsair Vengeance Pro

OS: Win7 x64

CCC: 14.1, used DDU to install the older ones but same problem. Now back on 14.1

Bellow you can find the AIDA64 GPGPU Benchmark

I also have artefacts on my dekstop when using the render test from GPU-Z.

They look like this:

and this

post-40983-0-22387100-1391796042.jpg

Worst part is: same problem happened 2 days ago, installed 14.1 again and the I could game all night & day.

Today after powering up my machine the black screens are back again...

Is this a driver error or a hardware issue? (Bad Card)

Tried the following things:

Other drivers

Removed CPU overclock & RAM overclock

Switched power cables (used two pci-e (2x 6+2pin) type 3 cables instead of one)

Updated DX (BF set to using Mantle)

Loaded optimal BIOS defaults.

Changed the switch on the R9 290 from left to right and back to original settings.

that's a tuff one to diagnose man... might just be a bad card... try to downclock it like 25mhz and check for the temps under load

Yeah idd, temps are ok.

When my card was working yesterday I could play all games on ultra at +- 76 - 77° C

I wonder how Linus and Slick would troubleshoot a problem like this.

EDIT: I down clocked the memory from 1300 to 1000 no luck...

Use 13.12, I've heard of a lot of issues with 14.1 and I'm having much less on 13.12

I sent my R9 290 in for an RMA because it kept black screening in games, and drivers didn't fix the issue.

When they received the card they ran 3dmark and it past all the tests, so they said nothing was wrong with it. I told them that it happens only in games not in benchmarks, so they sent it to the vendor. They said it will take an additional 30 days.

Edit aida 64 trial reproduced major artifacts.uninstalled 14.1 driver put 13.2 back on and re ran aida64 and no more issues. i will keep an eye on it but hopefully its a flaw in 14.1 beta. hopefully its just a bug. tomorow ill re run and contact asus and amd tech support. I need to know i have 25 days left on my store level waranty i think

When you'd install 14.1, was it a fresh install? That is, you'd uninstalled the previous driver before installing 14.1. I have a pair of Sapphire R9 290X in CF with Cat14.1 B1.6 without a hint of issue, and yes, I'd uninstalled previous driver, went thru the additional step of running Driver Sweeper, rebooted and installed 14.1 B1.6 and it's been plain sailing since.

@GamerDude Yes, fresh install.

Today it seems to be working fine again.

What did I do:

Uninstalled Sapphire Trix
Uninstalled 14.1 with DDU

Cleaned all temp files using ccleaner

Installed 13.x driver

No mantle but at least I can play games...

So maybe its the 14.1 driver or maybe its the Sapphire Software, I have no idea...

I had this issue as soon as i updated the drivers to 14.1, i was almost going to RMA the card but then i decided to uninstall the 14.1 drivers completly with ATIman unistaller and revert back to 13.12, the problem went away after i did that, i shoud mention i formatted my pc and tryed to install the 14.1 drivers and i had the same problem again, so its just the 14.1 drivers i think.

Edit: forgot to mention i have the XFX R9 290 refrence card.

System: Intel Core i7 3820 @ 3.60ghz || 8G Corsair ram @ 1333mhz || XFX AMD R9 290 || Coolermaster HAF XM Case || Asrock x79 Ex3 || Corsair H70 Liquid Cooler || Thermaltake 600w
