CPU - Phenom II X4 955 3.2 GHz, ASUS M2A-VM, 8 GB DDR 2 Ram, a shitty ISO Switching Power Supply ISO-400 300 Watt PSU and Cooler Master 3.1 lit case.

Now Ive had this PC for I don’t know 5 years I use it for Recording TV shows via TV Tuner like a DVR, websurfing and watching movie.

Now my case Cooler Master 3.1 lit has a USB 3.0 in the front and 2.0 I have connect to my mouse. My motherboard does not have USB 3.0 only 2.0 so I used a 3.0 converter wire to 2.0 so I can use it.

Now my  problem started three weeks ago, now since it’s winter time and my room has a heater.   It started with me plugging in the USB thumb drive into the USB 3.0 port(One with the converter wire) it froze, so then I thought maybe the USB messed something up by randomness since I have never had this ever happpen and so I reset the computer.  Then after an hour, I went to do something near my computer and I touch my computer and hit it with static for my arm and once again my computer froze.   I have discharge myself by touching metal on my PC stand and this has happened 4 times now.  It does it mostly when I plug in my USB thumb drive.  So  my first thought is it’s shorting out somewhere due to static so I checked my Power wire and it has 3 prongs.

I looked up online and it says to ground my computer and the way to find out is to make sure your power supply has three prongs and my power wires plugged into my seurge protector.  I don’t think it’s my USB converter wire because I’ve had it for six months and never had problems with it till winter time when I hit it with a little bit of static from my hands plugging in USB thumb drive.   So I don’t even touch the PC anymore and only to turn it on.

Now my second computer my new a computer I’ve touched it with static on my hand but it never freezes or anything it just shocks me a little bit when I touch the metal on the case.

I really hope someone can help me learn nose with this problem is.

I have front panel off for better airflow and add a filter in front looks ugly but it works.

You cannot convert usb 3 to usb 2.

a USB3 plugged to USB2 port will be the same as a USB2.

Its a 5 year old PC, anything can happen, especially is you use cable modifications like that.

You don't have to worry about static, pc freezes usually got something to do with overheating.

If you have cleaned all the dust still happening, try removing everything and clean the memory stick & gpu contact with rubber eraser.

Or if problem persist, try changing the PSU.

I know my PC does not overheat my PC is super clean except for the front filter everything in this PC is five months now from memory sticks, GPU, fans, CPU and case.

Oh one thing I forgot I ran a hard drive test via western digital software and there was no bad sectors and passed all the tests, also I ran a CPU stress test via AIDA64 for 30mins and all looked good temp were 50c highest and PC idles at 25c.

Anyone else?

Guess no one has had this type of problem to help me out
