LGA 1155 and 1150 compatibility??

So I'm in the market as of recent to build a new pc. The PC is going to be used for gaming, as well as running CAD, C4D, and a few adobe programs. Some of the parts for this pc I already have, I have a Asus H81m-A mother board, 8 gigs of ddr3 ram. And a hard drive. So I'm still in the process of choosing the right processor and graphics card.

 

I've recently been looking into the Intel Xeon E3 1230, 4 cores, 8 threads. Sounds great. But I'm seeing all over the place what motherboard/s it'd be compatible with. But I'm seeing all over the place, different socket types. LGA 1150 and LGA 1155.

 

So my question is. What is socket type for this Processor, and will it work with my Asus H81M-A motherboard. Probably a dumb question, but im not finding any answers

different socket means no compatibility on Intel side. You can only use E3 v3 among Xeons.

specifically v3, because they are LGA 1150

Xeon chips have an incremental generation code.

1230 v1 = i7 2xxx, sandy bridge, 

1230 v2 = i7 3xxx, ivy bridge,

1230 v3 = i7 4xxx, haswell

1230 v4 = i7 5xxx , skylake

and so on

Yes, its listed as a supported cpu :

But using Xeon in desktop motherboard you'll loose ECC memory support which is not supported by the chipset.

You'll need Intel C226 motherboard to enjoy the cheap (used) ECC server memory.
