Weird CPU problem after upgrades.

Go to solution Solved by MeltyMoon,

I'm running World of Warcraft right now with temps of 75-89 degrees. Using RealTemp

Yea that's definitely an issue. This is on stock right? Do you have any spare thermal paste lying around? I would suggest taking the stock cooler off, cleaning off all of the TIM and reapplying some new thermal material. I would believe that your temps are causing the CPU to throttle in an attempt to keep it's temperature down, which is causing your performance hits in games.

Ok, so I had just recently upgraded my graphics card from a Radeon HD7870 to a GTX 780, and a new PSU to compensate for the higher power draw. But recently while playing games I've noticed insane frame drops, so looking around I found that my CPU utilization is jumping up and down (see picture). I tried to find the source of my issue, but a little confused as to what can cause this. I have a feeling it could be that my CPU is getting very very hot, 75-80c, I am going to fix this with a new cooler, but I would like to know if it could be my new PSU (EVGA 600B).

Specs:

Intel Core i5 3570(not overclocking)

MSI GTX 780

8gb 1600mhz system memory

some Asrock board

1tb 7200rpm HDD

Some AZZA case

Before buying a new cooler outright, download some sort of program to monitor your temperatures. Something like hwinfo would do. I highly doubt your psu is the cause of the problem, if it was your pc would most likely just shut off and not throttle the CPU usage and clockspeed instead. Get back to us with some temps, and we'll try to see what the issue is.

Just what I thought, I'll do that now. Thank you so much for your help!
