NVIDIA's missed chance?

I think the new Gtx 1060 with GDDR5X should have been the Gtx 1060 ti and not the same card with same performance, it;s such a missed opportunity from Nvidia to match the new Radeon RX 590 with its performance being in between 1060 and 1070. It seems like the capabilities of GDDR5X  is wasted on the 1060. They could have just bumped the CUDA cores & core clock a bit. GTX 1060 ti would have made more sense in this case also laptops would get something new to put in newer mid range models until the RTX 2060's or 2050's hits the market.

or they could just make a cheaper 2000 series.

Nvidia's more like cleaning up warehouses of failed products, those that are too bad to be used in their original product lines. Instead of throwing them away as they did, they instead tried to create some noise with them and sell them for even higher prices than their performance (in cut down form) equivalent that are already available.
