Hello guys,

I'm an architectural technology student and I'm planning to build a new computer but I'm not sure if the parts I choose are good or not worth the money. It would be helpful if I may have your opinion on the parts I selected.

I plan to use this computer to help me with my homeworks and gaming. The programs I use are AutoCad, Revit, 3D Max and Photoshop. As for gaming, I like games such Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy XV.

The current pc set-up I have runs games at ~20-40 fps on low setting which I had a friend build me 6 years ago so I feel like it's time for an upgrade.

Thank you very much ?

Note:

*Budget: 2000$ CAD (Tax in my province: 15%)

*I use a 1080p monitor

Move to Ontario lol, we have 13% tax.

Anyways, why not an 8700K? Why the 9600K?

Haha,I was thinking of moving there for a couple of days just to buy the parts since I know someone there but the travel expense to take the train is not wort it.

As for the CPU, I just typed on google "November 2018 pc build" and somewhere in one of the sites, they recommended it.

The 9600K and 8600K are basically the same... you can save $50+ by going with an 8600K. Also that cooler was way over-kill for an i5. Switched out the PSU for a more reliable one also. Also added an SSD in the case that you don’t have one. You can also consider a used 1080/1080 Ti. The 1080 is about the same performance wise and doesn’t come with RTX headaches or fire hazards lol

edit: you should have enough to add an 8700K

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Snip.

“Way overkill”

lol i have a 280mm rad with push pull

overkill much xD

anyways

OP: a quadro even a bad one like a p1000 demolishes the 1080 ti in autocad.

also AMD cards are better in autocad so perhaps a vega 64.

Fair. Not sure how they perform in games though. That said, either will probably be fine, especially at 1080p (at least for gaming, that is actually overkill for gaming). Could step down to a 1070/1070 Ti and be fine, then you'd have enough room for an 8700K. I'm not the best reference for Auto CAD work though.

Ohh nice, your saving me a lot with the cpu/mobo combo. As for for the cpu cooler, I picked an AIO since I didn't want to block my ram LED. As for the SSD, I already have that one. And for the GPU I used pcpartpicker and and saw that RTX 2070 and GTX 1080 are the same price and so I picked the RTX since it's newer.

In that case you can drop the SSD and get a used 1080 Ti. They perform about the same as a 2080, and are only a little more expensive than a 2070. That's up to you whether or not you want to roll the dice on Turing though.

I'm not familiar with AMD so I just took the parts know. And also, I don't want to build a new pc for 5+ years so I somewhat made it overkill.

Well it's a good thing I wasn't the one that suggested AMD then I guess. 5+ years is a lot to ask from even the best of parts now, just know that. A 4770K and GTX 780 get smoked by new hardware of the same scale. Not saying that they're bad, just saying.

Hahaha, well I was able to use my pc for long time with a smaller budget beforei5-4670k ( I overclocked it using the button "overclock" on the mobo bios) and a gtx 760. So I think a 2000$ budget will last me longer this time.

Anyway, as I look at my parts, the cpu cooler do look a bit too much. Can anyone please sugget me a cheaper AIO cooler to Corsair - H100i v2 70.69 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler? Thank you
