Where I live comcast has upgraded the node to where I can bond 24 channels on the downstream where previously we only had 16 here. I upgraded from the sb6183 to the sb6190 to take advantage of this.

My confusion lies with I am inheritantly getting worse ping with 24 channels then 16 which should not be the case. Both modems have very good and almost identical signals. Between .5 and 1.0 across the board. SNR is good and upstream power is where is should be.

I can't figure out how the new modem would be worse. 10 ping consistantly higher in atleast 1 repeatable scenario.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thats because the SB6190 has the Intel Puma 6 chip which is defective. Its a well known issue and has been well documented. Has something to do with higher latency I think. They have been promising a fix for over a year and nothing has happen. Its such a problem that Arris is getting sued over it.

What was your ping beforehand?

Can you change the DNS to something else?

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Ping in the low 20's on the sb6183 and in the mid 30's on the sb6190 in Pubg. 10-15 ping difference on average between switching them back and forth about 5 times. Speed test results come back comparable. I tried to test on black ops 4 as well but the ping is too inconsistent to even determine a baseline.

Hmm.. well that's interesting. I've always used SB modems. Any suggestions on a 24+ then?

CM600 or go Docsis 3.1 if you want a 32 channel modem.

Thanks. Apparently the cm700 is the same price as the cm600 right now on amazon.

DO NOT BUY LIST - PUMA 6 CHIPSET
Due to many issues with the Intel Puma 6 Chipset, you should avoid buying the following modems. The chipset has caused many disconnects and interruptions with service. Please understand that these modems are the only ones affected and shouldn't harm a manufacturers name. Most have started using a different brand chipset in newer modem models. If you bought one of these modems, learn more about a potential class action lawsuit.
Arris SB6190
Arris TG1672G
Arris TM1602
Hitron CGN3 / CDA / CGNV
Hitron CDA-32372
Hitron CDE-32372
Hitron CDA3-35
Hitron CGNV4

Hitron CGNM-3552
Hitron CGN3
Hitron CGNM-2250
Linksys CM3024
Linksys CM3016
TP-Link CR7000
Netgear  C6300
Netgear CM700

Like I said, the issue is with the Puma 6 chip. If you want a 32 Channel modem go Docsis 3.1, because like every 32 channel Docsis 3.0 modem has puma 6 in it.

Gotcha, now i see why the price is the same. Maybe i'll just stick with my sb6183 for now.
