Audio Setup help and recomendations

Hi, My current setup is coming to an end, and i want to upgrade it.

What I want from a audio system is to switch from headphones to speaker without changing software settings. currently my speakers have a physical volume control with a headphone and mic. jack, which switches to headphones when i plug them in. I would like to continue to have this flexibility, maybe without plunging them in and out but via a switch. However, I do not really know my way around the required hardware i would need for this. I do not have a dedicated soundcard but use the on-board one. Quality is an issue to me but it must not be high end, but rather decent middle class.

Thanks for any tips, recommendations

Usually even if you have both the headphones and speakers plugged just into a 3.5mm jack, you can switch between the two by right-clicking on sound in the bottom right tray > sound settings > select which ever you want.

Ok let me specify: I am looking for a complete solution: Speakers, and headphones and a whatever hardware I require to achieve above. My budget is not yet decided but not to tight.

---EDIT---

Optionally a 1/4 inch jack for the headphones
