you won't be getting much of an overclock with both the cooler and mobo. get a locked i7 8700 and good B360/H370 board instead, use the money saved on the CPU for a better case/PSU.

No.  THere are better coolers out there, but people like to meme.  I wouldn't go with an 8700k at current prices, however.  I would get a 2600 and a b450 board, and put the saved $300 into upgrading your GPU to 2080ti.  That hyper 212 will let you OC the 2600 to 4.2 no problem.

The 8700 is literally an overpriced 2600(after OC).   See past you goytel blinders.

Not having an SSD in high end gaming PCs should be a sin, good that you added one

 

and yes, that mobo and cooler is no good for overclocking. Expect spending extra $100 on the motherboard and $70 on the cooler for 5ghz overclock attempt.

Compare the OC'd 2600 scores to the base 8700 scores (which is accurate since the 2600 can OC on a $50 b350 board whereas intels need $110+ mobos to OC)

Even still the 2600 is faster; also the 2600 OCed scores are probably past 4 ghz and I don't think the stock cooler could reasonably push past 4ghz.

 

The 2600 is probably better value but that doesn't mean it's always the better choice. Sometimes the extra single threaded speed or lower core-core and memory latency of the i7 may be beneficial to certain workloads and allow it to outperform the 2600 and even the 2700.

 

Also I wouldn't really recommend OCing a 2600 on $50 B350 boards as the VRMs are not good... Usually I'd at least recommend a $70 board with decent VRMs if someone wants to OC

ASRock Pro4 has great VRMs for the money.
